Happy Friday! It’s been a while since we’ve posted here on the blog. It just so happens to be our very last day as Northerners, because we’re heading out on our camper journey down to Florida tomorrow! We’ve been staying with my parents for the last 3 weeks, and we are so ready to get down to the South and start our new lives (and get back to blogging more). The one advantage to staying in Northern PA has been seeing all the Fall colors. It truly is a beautiful area during this time of year! There is a chill in the air that we can’t wait to escape from, but I decided we might as well take advantage of it and have Luke bundle up a bit and showcase this awesome scarf.

We also thought that in celebration of our moving, we should do a GIVEAWAY! We’re going to give this scarf to one winner because we’re so excited about our big move and want you all to celebrate with us! Requirements for entry will be at the bottom of this post!

This scarf is made by empowered artisans in India, and it’s a unisex scarf! Trades of Hope doesn’t have a lot of guy items, but this one is definitely one of our favs! It’s nice and light so you can wear it in the Fall without getting too hot, but it blocks the wind enough that it would be helpful in the winter as well. Not to mention the plaid is super fashionable!

Poverty imposes an oppressive weight on India, especially in the rural areas where almost three out of four Indians and 77 percent of the Indian poor live. Although poverty has been reduced during the past four decades, it remains painfully high. Trades of Hope is so excited to partner with multiple groups all over India to make a difference in this! Through this partnership, women are given the chance to work from home while they take care of their families. Not only do these groups provide their artisans education for their children, but many also receive health care and financial assistance.
These groups work with women facing extreme discrimination as a result of their caste-system, those experiencing excommunication from their communities due to leprosy, and those trying to find a way to support their families without turning to sweatshops or the sex industry. Some of these groups have started schools for villages in the area and help provide clean water. Their goal is to train their artisans to own their own business, so that they can provide for their family! The gift of sustainable business does not only affect one person, but whole communities and generations to come.

Isn’t he so handsome?
